Introduction
TraceNote ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use the TraceNote app for iPhone and iPad.
The short version: TraceNote stores all your data on your device. We do not collect, upload, or share your session content.
Data We Collect
TraceNote processes the following data on your device to provide its core functionality:
- Audio recordings you create within sessions
- Text transcriptions of those recordings, generated on-device by Apple's Speech Recognition
- Photos and video clips you capture during sessions
- Scanned document images and the text extracted from them by on-device OCR
- Text notes you type manually
- Signature images and associated signer names and consent text
- Location data (when permission is granted) used to geotag session entries
- Subscription status, managed by Apple's App Store
We do not collect any analytics, crash reports, advertising identifiers, or usage telemetry. No account or registration is required to use TraceNote.
How We Use Your Data
All data you create in TraceNote is used solely to provide the app's features — building session timelines, generating transcripts, and producing export packages. Your data is never transmitted to our servers, shared with third parties, or used for advertising.
Data Storage & Security
All recordings, photos, documents, and transcripts are stored in the app's private sandbox on your device. This data is:
- Not accessible to other apps without your explicit action (e.g. using the iOS share sheet)
- Included in encrypted iCloud Backup if you have that enabled in iOS Settings
- Deleted permanently when you delete a session or uninstall the app
We recommend enabling a device passcode or Face ID to protect sensitive session content.
Third-Party Services
TraceNote uses only Apple's built-in platform services. No third-party SDKs, analytics libraries, or advertising frameworks are included in the app.
- Apple Speech Recognition — on-device transcription of audio recordings
- Apple Vision / VNRecognizeTextRequest — on-device OCR on photos and scanned documents
- Apple StoreKit 2 — subscription management and billing via the App Store
- Apple CoreLocation — optional location tagging of session entries
- Apple AVFoundation / AVAudioEngine — audio recording and processing
These services are provided by Apple and governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Children's Privacy
TraceNote is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us so we can address it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of TraceNote after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
